Horizon Early Learning Center proudly serves families at two locations in Brattleboro, sharing a child-centered philosophy inspired by the principles of National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). We provide warm, nurturing classrooms where children explore, create, and grow through hands-on learning experiences that build confidence, independence, and a lifelong love of learning.

Horizon’s Educational Practices

Young children thrive in environments that are child-centered, engaging, and guided by warm, nurturing, and knowledgeable teachers. When children are given meaningful opportunities to explore, create, and solve problems, they grow and develop to their fullest potential.

We believe children learn best through active, hands-on experiences that reflect their developmental stage, interests, and everyday lives. Thoughtful interactions with teachers and peers—both in small and large groups—support strong social and emotional growth. Every experience is intentionally designed to be meaningful, enjoyable, and rooted in each child’s unique strengths and needs.

Children are encouraged to make choices, initiate activities, and build independence as confident problem-solvers. Having a voice in their day—choosing materials, activities, and play partners—fosters a strong sense of self, intrinsic motivation, and the ability to cooperate and collaborate within a group.

At Horizon, activities are thoughtfully adapted to support each child within the classroom community. Our open-ended, inclusive approach allows every child to participate in their own way and at their own pace. We celebrate and explore diverse cultures, traditions, and perspectives, creating a welcoming environment for all families.

Our flexible environment, schedule, and teaching practices support children’s physical, social-emotional, and cognitive development, enriched by meaningful conversations and language that encourage curiosity, expression, and connection.
